The anaesthesia machine check: a structure for the daily check
This page is demonstration content in the clinical-notes format and must be checked against the manufacturer's checklist and local policy before use.
Why the order matters
A machine check performed in a fixed order catches failures the same way every time, which is the entire point of a checklist. Reordering steps from memory defeats the safety design.
A practical structure
- Start with power, gas supplies and pressures.
- Move through the vaporiser, breathing system and leaks.
- Test ventilation and alarm function last, immediately before the patient arrives.
The exact items and sequence belong to the manufacturer's published checklist and your department's protocol; this note is a teaching scaffold only.
